Clara Half Doll Hanging Tassel

Materials:

  • Half doll, ãClaraä, 3 ¸ä tall (half dolls)
  • 10ä of 6ä long French lampshade fringing
  • 6ä piece of 1ä wide ribbon for dollâs waist
  • Three 9ä pieces of 1ä wide bias silk ribbon, for three pink folded roses
  • 2ä of ¹ä wide pale green satin ribbon for bow
  • Helenâs book, The Secrets of Fashioning Ribbon Flowers (see shopping section)
  • Crinoline 2ä x 2ä
  • Optional: 12ä of fuzzy yarn/thread
  • Optional: Beads for extra embellishing
  • milliners needle, size 10
  • thread
  • scissors
  • long pins
  • Tape measure
  • E-6000 glue or tacky glue

Steps:

  • Double over a piece of cord or ribbon, tie a double knot in the end and insert into the head from the base of the half doll. Set aside.

Tip: If the ribbon/cord pulls through the hole, tie a small bead in the knot of the ribbon.

  • Optional: dye the fringing with tea for a cream colored tassel
  • Spread tacky glue along the top edge of the fringing and tightly roll it up. Smear a little glue on the top of the coiled fringing.
  • Spread glue on the inside of the base of the half doll and then insert the top part of the rolled up fringing into the cavity. Set aside to dry.
  • Cover the waist at the edge of the half doll with a piece of trim or ribbon. Slightly gather to fit waist.
  • Embellish the half doll with bows, ribbon flowers, strings of beads, fancy threads etc.

Tip: If using multiple items to embellish it is a good idea to stitch all these elements to crinoline thus making one complete embellishing piece that can then be stitched or glued to the half doll.
